Jaguar XKR-S - the fastest Jag yet

Jaguar has revealed the XKR-S - the fastest production car it has ever built.

With a 542bhp version of the direct-injection supercharged 5.0-litre V8 engine, the car can hit 60mph from standstill in 4.2 seconds on the way to a maximum speed of 186mph. According to Jaguar, it's accompanied by a race-inspired backing track through its sports exhaust system.

The XKR-S is also said to be equally adept as a grand touring coupe, with 503lb ft of torque and a smooth-shifting ZF automatic gearbox.

The boost in power and torque do not corrupt the agility of the standard XKR, Jaguar says. The S employs the same lightweight aluminium structure but has retuned suspension and new settings for the electronic damping and stability systems.

Jaguar says CO2 emissions will be below 300g/km, putting it ahead of any rival. It will go on sale around the start of summer at what we would conservatively estimate to be around 90,000.
