Mazda CX-7 diesel

The missing piece of the CX-7 SUV jigsaw is on show here in Geneva in the form of a 2.2-litre diesel engine.

advertisment

The success of the car was always going to be tainted by the fact it has been available with only petrol power.

Now, though, the car has a 170bhp 2.2-litre common-rail diesel unit, which is capable of powering the car from 0-62mph in 11.3 seconds and on to a top speed of 124mph. CO2 emissions are 199g/km.

The arrival of the diesel engine coincides with a mild 'blink-and-you've-missed-it' facelift for the SUV. The Mazda logo on the grille is bigger and the rear roof spoiler is also larger - and that's about it.

Prices have yet to be confirmed for the diesel, but expect to see the car on sale in the UK by the end of this year.
