More diesel power for BMW 7 Series

BMW is fitting its new twin-turbo diesel engine in the 7 Series.

The 3.0-litre engine to be badged 740d accelerates the 7-Series from 0-62mph in 6.3 seconds and on to 155mph, yet returns 40.9mpg and emits 181g/km of carbon dioxide, thanks to BMWs Efficient Dynamics technology.

The engine has new high-pressure piezo-electric fuel injectors, improved brake energy regeneration and a lower-power air-conditioning compressor.

Prices will be revealed closer to the 740d's launch in September.

The 730d engine has been revised to give 41.5mpg and emit 178g/km (40.9mpg and 180g/km from the long-wheelbase 730Ld models).

New M Sport models
BMW is also introducing M Sport models to the 7 Series range: these will have 19-inch alloy wheels, a bodykit, sports seats, an M Sport steering wheel, M sport door sills, brushed aluminium interior trim and anthracite headlining.

Other new 7 Series options on offer include an Executive Package (£2,515) for long-wheelbase models, which adds 19-inch multi-spoke alloys, TV connection, sun-protecting glass, electric rear sunblinds, front- and rear-seat heating, and a windscreen shade band. Executive Plus (£2,865) adds the above plus soft-close doors and front-seat lumbar support.

These new and revised models go on sale in September with orders being taken now.
