New 1.0 Ecoboost engine for Focus

Ford has announced at the Frankfurt motor show that a new 1.0-litre Ecoboost petrol engine will be available in the Focus from next year.

Two versions of this three-cylinder engine will go on sale in Europe, with 99bhp mated to a five-speed gearbox and a 118bhp unit with a six-speed 'box.

Both will have similar performance to the current 103bhp 1.6-litre petrol unit, but Ford has said the new engine will have better emissions, with CO2 levels touted to be below 120g/km.

The cars will be on sale early next year.

The Focus-based C-Max will also get the 1.0 Ecoboost engine, as will the new B-Max MPV when it goes on sale in 2012. The Focus and C-Max will get stop-start technology, too, to further improve fuel consumption.
