New Citroën Grand C4 Spacetourer vs used Land Rover Discovery Sport: which is best?
A new Citroën Grand C4 Spacetourer is the ideal transport for a family, but could the prestige of a used Land Rover Discovery Sport for similar money be a tempting alternative?...
New Citroën Grand C4 Spacetourer vs used Land Rover Discovery Sport – alternatives
In keeping with the French theme, why not try a Peugeot 5008 in place of the Grand C4 Spacetourer. It shares the same engines and is similarly economical since it too is front-wheel drive only. It is also our 2020 What Car? Awards Large SUV winner because it’s hugely practical, rather nice to drive, well-equipped and extremely stylish.
If you can accept Kia’s slightly less prestigious image, the hugely practical Sorento is a great alternative to the Land Rover Discovery Sport. The Sorento isn’t the best handler because of its bulk and is best driven at a gentle canter.
New Citroën Grand C4 Spacetourer vs used Land Rover Discovery Sport – which is best?
Desirability counts for a lot in purchases of all types, and the Land Rover Discovery Sport is the one you’ll want to own more than the Spacetourer. It also has more talents than the Citroën because it has four-wheel drive and a clever terrain management system that takes the strain out of off-road driving. The downside, it won’t be particularly dependable and will cost more to run. And you’ll be expected to take the children of other parents to school in wintery conditions.
The most sensible option is the Citroën Grand C4 Spacetourer. Yes, it won’t be able to take you to far-flung places quite so effortlessly as the Discovery Sport would, but it’ll be more likely to get you where you want to go without issue. And it has a seating layout better suited to child car seats, which could be the deciding factor for some. No, it won’t be quite so coveted by the neighbours, but then they don’t have to live with it every day.
