Citroën has a long history in racing, with rallying experience dating back to the 1950s. And after stepping away for a while recently, the brand announced its return to the motorsport scene with its entry into Formula E for 2026 – and with this return comes the Citroën Dispatch VTR, a racing-inspired variant of the French firm’s medium van.

Indeed, the new VTR variant will apply sporty styling across both the diesel and electric versions of the Dispatch, featuring a new front lip spoiler, side skirts with integrated mud guards and a rear spoiler. The side of the van gets a racy chevron design with ‘VTR’ badging. As standard, the Dispatch VTR comes with 18in alloy wheels fitted with Nankang tyres.

Inside, the VTR badging continues across the seats, which also get some red stitching and are furnished with a perforated material for improved ventilation. Citroën’s Comfort Pack and Winter Pack also come as standard, adding dual-zone electric climate control, keyless entry and start, wireless charging, a heated steering wheel and a heated driver’s seat.

The diesel Dispatch VTR comes fitted with the 2.0-litre 174bhp engine, which comes exclusively with the eight-speed automatic gearbox and has 295lb/ft of torque. In the panel van version, it has a payload of 1305kg, while the crew van version can manage 1260kg. Indeed, it’s more practical than the rival Renault Trafic.

If you want something closer to the Formula E experience, there’s also the fully electric ë-Dispatch VTR. That version is powered by the same 75kWh battery that’s found in the regular van, officially offering up to 230 miles of range. Depending on whether you opt for the crew or panel version, it has a payload between 937kg and 1001kg – less than the Ford E-Transit Custom, but a lot more than the Mercedes eVito.

Prices for the diesel Citroën Dispatch VTR will start at £42,745 for the panel van, while the crew van will start at £45,445. That makes the panel van cheaper than range-topping versions of the Renault Trafic.

Meanwhile, panel versions of the electric ë-Dispatch VTR will start at £46,845 and crew versions at £49,545 after the Plug-in Van Grant has been applied. That makes the panel van cheaper than a Sport version of the Ford Transit E-Custom.
