New Renault Megane E-Tech vs used Kia EV6 interiors

With a saving of around £14,000 off new, a year-old Kia EV6 looks like great value, but are you better off spending even less on a box-fresh Renault Megane E-Tech?...

Interiors

Driving position, visibility, build quality

You sit higher in the Kia EV6 than you do in the Renault Megane E-Tech, but if you're coming from a BMW X3, for instance, you still won't find the EV6 to offer a truly commanding driving position.

Overall, the E-Tech has a fundamentally sound, natural-feeling driving position, with lots of adjustment in its seat. By contrast, you're forced to sit rather upright in the EV6, with a driver's seat that some of our testers felt wouldn't sink as low as they wanted it to. The seat itself is comfortable, though.

The EV6's thick rear pillars and rising window line do make it a little difficult to see out of the back – the E-Tech is only marginally better, mind you – but fortunately, both cars feature front and rear parking sensors, plus a rear-view camera (as standard).

In terms of interior quality, both feature good quality materials in the places you touch most, with a few cheap plastics used in the places you don't. The EV6's interior feels classier overall, though.

Stepping up to Techno trim gets you a larger, 12.0in screen with Google software, but we’d be happy to stick with the 9.0in unit you get here. Not only does it offer fantastic clarity and a simple user interface, but it’s also angled towards the driver, making it easy to reach. Our only real complaint is that it can be slow to respond, especially when running wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto

The EV6’s 12.3in touchscreen infotainment system is positioned high up on the middle of the dashboard, making it easy to see while driving – it's not especially angled towards the driver or mounted as close to you as the screen in the E-Tech, though. The EV6's screen has crisp graphics, quick response times and intuitive menus. Some of the icons could be bigger to make them easier to aim for, though. Like in the E-Tech, you get Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and they were fitted as standard from new.
