New Subaru Legacy is bigger and bolder
* New car is much larger * More cabin space * Distinctive exterior design...

Subaru has released details of its new Legacy saloon, which will be shown at the New York International motor show from April 8.
As expected, the design has changed little from the concept car that was unveiled at the Detroit motor show in January. Big, bold headlights and flared wheelarches create a much more aggressive look than the current car.
The new model is 3.5cm longer, 8cm higher and 9cm wider than the current car, while the distance between the front and rear wheels is increased by 8cm.
Subaru says that this has created much more passenger and boot space.
An electronic hill-holder system and stability control add to the reassurance of four-wheel drive, while front, side and curtain airbags are fitted as standard.
The US models announced will feature powerful petrol engines a 168bhp 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine, a 261bhp turbocharged version and a 251bhp 3.6-litre six-cylinder unit. UK models should be available with the 2.5, but 2.0-litre petrol and diesel engines will be the mainstays of the range here.
The Legacy saloon is expected go on sale in the UK early next year, with estate and Outback off-road models following later.
