Porsche 918 Spyder revealed

Porsche has revealed a stunning plug-in hybrid sports car at a VW Group preview on the eve of the Geneva motor show.

The 918 Spyder concept car can achieve 94mpg and emit just 70g/km of carbon dioxide, yet it can go from zero to 62mph in 3.2 seconds. Porsche claims the car can complete the legendary Nurburgring circuit in under 7minutes and 30 seconds.

It is a mid-engined two-seater powered by an eight-cylinder V8 engine delivering more than 500bhp, and three electric motors with overall output of 160kW.

Although billed as a concept car, Porsche chief Michael Macht said that Porsche has never shown a concept car that it didn't go on to be made as a production vehicle.

The company, however, said it would gauge interest in the car at the show before committing to building the 918 Spyder.
