For us, the Porsche 911 is one of the best sports cars on sale. While we think it’s pretty good as it is, it’s always nice to receive a new one. And this latest iteration – the updated Porsche 911 Turbo S – is set to be the most potent version on the market, with a huge output of more than 700bhp.

Available in both coupé and cabriolet form, the new 911 Turbo S receives a mild hybrid ‘T-Hybrid’ system, similar to the one in the 911 Carrera GTS. In the Turbo S, it combines a 3.6-litre four cylinder petrol engine with a small 1.9kWh battery, the latter powering an all-wheel-drive system with a total output of 701bhp.

With that juice, the 911 Turbo S can shoot from 0-62mph in just 2.5sec – nearly a whole second quicker than the Aston Martin Vantage, and 0.3sec faster than a McLaren 720S. Indeed, it’s a 0.2sec improvement on the outgoing model, and it can reach a top speed of 200mph.

Due to its new hybrid system, the 911 Turbo S weighs 85kg more than its predecessor. New tyres mean that the car should handle better in dry weather, and new brake pads should improve brake performance.

A brand new aerodynamic system is designed to optimise the cooling of the engine, which should allow for greater efficiency, and there’s a new system designed for better body control, so the 911 Turbo S should be able to handle with more agility, too.

Outside, the 911 Turbo S has a wider stance to differentiate it from 911 Carrera models, with large air vents and a protruding rear spoiler. LED Matrix headlights come as standard.

Inside, there’s room for two people in the coupé, while the cabriolet can seat up to four people in a 2+2 configuration. Sports Seats Plus with 18-way adjustable lumbar support come as standard, and are decorated with Turbo S lettering.

The infotainment system is in keeping with other 911 models, with a 12.7in digital display behind the steering wheel and a 10.9in infotainment screen integrated into the dashboard, with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

The new Porsche 911 Turbo S will arrive later this year. The coupé will be priced from £199,100, but if you want the cabriolet, you’ll have to fork out an extra £10,000. That entry-level price is more expensive than an Aston Martin Vantage, but less than a McLaren 720S.
