The BMW i8 is the company's second plug-in hybrid model, following on from the i3 city car that was launched in 2013.

However, the i8 is, in many ways, at the other end of the motoring spectrum. It has a 96kw electric motor and a 1.5-litre petrol engine, but is capable of 0-62mph in 4.4 seconds and emits just 59g/km of CO2. It is also set to cost in the region of £100,000.
