Renault Scenic XMOD crossover revealed

The Renault Scenic XMOD has been revealed at the Geneva motor show.

The XMOD will replace the five-door Renault Scenic MPV in the UK, and comes with SUV-like styling and an upgraded traction control system to help it cope with poor road conditions.

As well as a redesigned front grille and Renault logo, exterior styling includes LED headlights, plastic cladding around the front and rear bumpers, sill guards and chrome roof rails. It also gets bespoke alloys and a ride height that's been raised by 10mm to help cope with harsher terrain.

The interior is largely unchanged from the Scenic's, with the most notable addition being the controller for the upgraded Grip Xtend traction control system.

This new traction control system is designed to cope with driving conditions such as mud, snow or sand. In the 'Road' setting it acts as a conventional traction control system, then 'Expert' gives braking assistance, while 'Loose Ground' helps control braking and engine torque.

The Scenic XMOD also comes with tyres designed to cope with mud and snow as standard.

The XMOD will be launched at the Geneva motor show in March alongside the face-lifted seven-seat Grand Scenic. It too has a restyled front grille with a larger Renault logo.

Both cars come with the choice of three new engines, including an upgraded version of the 1.6-litre TCe 130 diesel. Renault says it is 15% more efficient than the outgoing model, although the figures will be confirmed at the Geneva motor show.

Pricing for the XMOD will also be confirmed at the show, but it is expected to cost from just over 19,000 around 800 more than the outgoing model.
