Save thousands on Jaguar XE rivals

The Jaguar XE has its work cut out. The compact executive market is one of the biggest and most competitive. Our reviewers reckon its up to the challenge but could these big savings on some of the XE's biggest rivals make you think twice before handing your money over to Jaguar?

The BMW 5 Series is our Executive Car of the Year 2015. True, it's not a compact executive and wouldn't normally be considered a rival to the XE but when you take into account the near £9000 saving we've found on a 525d M Sport, it certainly competes with the Jaguar on price. is selling the 525d M Sport for £31,120, which is just £345 more than our pick of the XE range. The BMW might not be able to match the Jaguar's low running costs but it offers more room and is great to drive.

We've also found two deals on executive offerings from Audi that are worth a look. is offering £4411 off the Audi A4 2.0 TDI quattro 177 SE saloon. The A4 is feeling a bit old now, but £25,769 for a well built, four-wheel-drive compact executive is tempting.

The second Audi deal is on the Audi A5 Sportback. is offering the 2.0 TDI 177 S line model for £28,835 which is nearly £5000 off list price. For that you get a stylish executive car that comes with all the kit you need.

Finally, we come to a car that offers the space of an executive but without the premium price tag, the Ford Mondeo. There's no getting away from the fact that the Mondeo doesn't feel as special as the Jaguar XE or any other premium rivals, but it does offer a lot of car for a lot less money. It's good to drive, refined, practical and also well equipped. To top it all off, there are big savings to be had. The 2.0 TDCi 150 Zetec is one of our favourite models and is offering it for £19,199 - that's £3346 off list price and nearly £12,000 less than our favourite XE.
