Skoda's eco-friendly Fabia and Roomster
* Fabia averages 83.1mpg and emits 89g/km CO2
* Roomster does 67.3mpg and emits 109g/km
Skoda has unveiled Greenline versions of its recently face-lifted Fabia and Roomster models.
These eco-friendly versions of the cars are even more economical than their predecessors and emit less carbon dioxide.
New engine improves efficiency
At the heart of the improvements is a new 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbodiesel engine in place of the old 1.4 unit. This is combined with an engine stop-start system, energy recuperation (to recharge the cars battery under braking) and a gearshift indicator. On top of that, these cars also have low rolling-resistance tyres and a chassis that has been lowered to improve aerodynamics.
Thanks to these measures, the Fabia estate returns average economy of just 83.1mpg and emits 89g/km of CO2. In the Roomster, the figures are 67.3mpg and 109g/km.
The Greenline cars are expected to go on sale in the UK later this summer, with prices announced nearer that date.
