Ssangyong launches crossover

The Ssangyong Korando is the first of a series of models that the company hopes will broaden the brand's appeal to car buyers.

Traditionally, Ssangyong has made 4x4s, but the Korando is its first crossover and there are more on the way.

Within the next 12 months, a larger Korando-style seven-seater will be launched. It may be called Musso and will be available in both front- and four-wheel-drive versions. The Hyundai Santa Fe rival will be powered by a 2.2-litre diesel.

Twelve months later, Ssangyong will launch a Nissan Juke rival, which will be built on an all-new platform.

Before all that, however, the company will be concentrating on the Korando. Ssangyong says it wants to sell 2000 Korandos a year and hopes it will be popular with drivers who tow, because it has a 2000kg towing capacity.
