Swindon leader once banned for speeding

The leader of the council that's looking to scrap speed cameras was once banned from driving himself, it was revealed yesterday.

Roderick Bluh, who heads Swindon Borough Council, was banned for three months after he collected 12 points for speeding on his licence.

The council is currently looking at alternative ways to spend their 400,000 yearly contribution to the local safety camera partnership.

Mr Bluh's driving ban occurred before he took office in 2006 and, although he says it's changed his behaviour on the road, he insists there are other ways to improve other drivers' conduct.

The council's decision on speed cameras will take place in September.
