Used test: Audi A1 Sportback vs Mini 5dr: verdict

The Audi A1 and the Mini 5dr both offer a luxury feel in a small car package, but which one makes the most sense when bought used? We have the answer...

Audi A1 and Mini hatch

Our Verdict

In some ways, the Mini hatchback isn't quite as impressive a package as it used to be. This 2018 car is noisier on the motorway than previous versions and it doesn’t ride particularly smoothly. That said, it’s marginally cheaper to buy here at three years old, and it certainly provides flexible performance and top-notch interior quality, so it still feels pretty swish.

But it’s the A1 that gets our vote. Its notable strength is how stress-free it is to drive, with a soft ride and a hushed air on the motorway. It has fewer weaknesses than the Mini, too. It’s a fine car, and we’d spend the extra on it here over the Mini, even if it’s slightly disappointing that it no longer feels quite such a cut above as it used to.
