Used test: Audi A1 Sportback vs Mini 5dr

The Audi A1 and the Mini 5dr both offer a luxury feel in a small car package, but which one makes the most sense when bought used? We have the answer.....

Audi A1 front

Our Verdict

The Mini hatchback appears to have actually slipped back a little over the years. It’s noisier on the motorway than previous versions of the car and it doesn’t ride particularly smoothly. That said, it’s the cheaper to buy here at two years old, and it certainly provides flexible performance and top-notch interior quality, so it feels pretty swish.

But it’s the A1 that gets our vote here. Its notable strength is how stress-free it is to drive, with a soft ride and a hushed air on the motorway. It has fewer weaknesses than the Mini, too. It’s a fine car, and we’d spend the extra on it here over the Mini, even if it’s slightly disappointing that it no longer feels quite such a cut above as it used to.
