Used test: Peugeot 3008 vs Nissan Qashqai

The new Peugeot 3008 will hit showrooms soon, but how does the previous version stack up as a used purchase against the Nissan Qashqai?...

Used test: Peugeot 3008 vs Nissan Qashqai

Our Verdict

For its extra space, utility and comfort alone, the Peugeot 3008 would edge ahead – but its great little 1.6-litre turbo engine clinches the deal.

True, the 3008 will probably wear its miles less well than the Nissan Qashqai, and reliability reports suggest the Qashqai performs slightly better in terms of its dependability and repair costs. However, the 3008 is cheaper not only to run and to service, but also to buy if you're looking at cars of a similar vintage.

It's worth noting that lesser versions of the 3008 are harder to recommend, because unless you choose this 1.6-litre turbo petrol engine or the 2.0-litre diesel, you lose the Dynamic Ride Control system.

Cars without this are more cumbersome to drive and less comfortable, which tips the balance in favour of the Qashqai if you're comparing lower-specification diesel versions.

But if it's high-spec petrol versions you're choosing between, the 3008 is the better used car choice. Pick well, and look for an example that has been cared for and hasn't been abused, and you'll have a versatile and satisfying family hatchback with a welcome injection of SUV genes.
