New Skoda Karoq vs Seat Ateca

Our verdict

So it’s a Czech victory here as the Karoq wins the day, but only by a photo finish.

Indeed we wouldn’t think you at all foolish if you went for the Ateca, which continues to be highly recommendable, especially so as a used buy. It encompasses many of its rival’s strengths and there is that sporty side – not just in how it drives but in the way this FR model looks – that distinguishes it from others. It’s cheaper to buy, too.

But the Karoq is the better all-rounder. It’s a shame that the 1.5 engine is not as nice as the previous 1.4 and that it’ll cost you more to buy despite that, but its more polished ride and the flexibility provided by those rear seats widen the Karoq’s appeal. Factor in its more generous standard kit and that edges the Karoq past the winning post just ahead of its esteemed sibling.
