The new VW Golf has scored a maximum five star rating in Euro NCAP crash tests for adult occupancy protection.

The VW Golf is also reported to have scored four stars out of five for child protection and three stars out of four for pedestrian protection.

Insurance details for the new Golf have been released, with the entry-level 78bhp 1.4-litre petrol car in insurance group 4, and the current most-powerful model, the 137bhp 2.0-litre diesel, in insurance group 12.

The Mark VI Volkswagen Golf can be ordered at VW dealers now, with the first cars being delivered in January. Prices start at 13,150.
