VW launches Touareg Bluemotion

Volkswagen has added another Bluemotion model to its line-up.

This time the Touareg SUV gains a 'green' makeover, with a range of tweaks to improve fuel economy and cut carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.

The new model uses a more-efficient version of the Touareg's existing 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine and six-speed automatic gearbox. Other changes include revised aerodynamics, low-rolling-resistance tyres and a ride height lowered by 2.5cm to reduce drag.

There's also a regenerative system that charges the battery under braking to reduce the workload of the engine and cut fuel consumption.

These revisions help the Bluemotion achieve 34.0 mpg on average, up from 30.4 mpg. CO2 emissions are cut to 219 g/km, down from 244 g/km.

The reductions means that it qualifies for band K road tax at 215 a year, saving 190 over the standard Touareg 3.0-litre V6 TDI 240 PS.

Two trims - Bluemotion and BlueMotion SE are available, with prices of 34,150 and 37,545 respectively. The Touareg Bluemotion is available to order now, with deliveries starting in September.
