Kenneth MacDonald, 62, a regular reader of the What Car?, was invited to take part in the competition when checking the valuation of his current car. He was the lucky winner from 21,000 entrants.

Despite being offered a selection of brands, Kenneth remained loyal to Vauxhall and chose a new Corsa as his prize.

Kenneth said: 'I don't usually enter competitions online, but this one was easy to do and the prize was worth it. With my family dotted all over Scotland, it's really important that I have a reliable source of transport.

'I have debated on upgrading my current Astra many times, but I wasn't sure I had the funds available. When I got the phone call telling me I had won, I couldn't believe it. I have never won anything big in my life, and I was sure that someone was playing a practical joke on me.

'The competition has been a worthwhile collaboration and Kenneth was a very worthy winner. We are pleased that we have enabled him to choose a new car from a brand he knows and trusts.'

The competition was advertised on whatcar.com, along with Facebook, Twitter and Google+. In order to register, entrants filled in their contact details followed by the registration number of their current car. They were then sent a unique registration number by email, which served as an entry code to the competition.
