Winter tyre fitment

Q) Can I fit a different-sized winter tyre?
I recently bought a new Ford Fiesta 1.6 TDCi with 195/45 R16 tyres. Im finding it difficult to source winter tyres to fit, so can I use 205/55 R16s instead?

A) According to the tyre suppliers we contacted, 195/45 R16 is a fairly unusual size, meaning it might be tricky to get hold of a set. However, Ford doesnt recommend fitting a different-sized winter tyre on the original wheel, so its worth persevering with your search.

Alternatively, it could be cheaper to buy a set of smaller steel wheels and a set of winter tyres, which are more common and much cheaper in these smaller sizes.
