Costs & verdict

Everyday costs, plus how reliable and safe it is

The Audi S8 is the most expensive version of the A8 that you can buy, and it also looks quite pricey compared with smaller performance cars, including the BMW M5 and Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG.

Mind you, compared to the Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG, the S8 seems something of a bargain, and it’s also cheaper than a Porsche Panamera GTS

Overview

Crushingly fast yet comfortable and refined, and considerably cheaper than a Mercedes S63 AMG if you avoid the Vorsprung model. Just don’t expect sports car cornering thrills.

  • Savage straight-line pace
  • Comfortable and incredibly refined
  • Plush interior
  • Not that most agile performance saloon
  • Muted engine note won’t appeal to all
  • Fiddly infotainment system
