They say if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. The Dacia Sandero certainly isn’t broken – in fact, it was the best-selling car in Europe last year. However, against that famous advice, it’s set to undergo some big changes for its next generation, with all-new power options and styling.

Due to arrive in 2027, the new Sandero will receive new styling treatment inspired by its larger Duster and Bigster SUVs. However, instead of becoming one of a number of SUVs in the Romanian brand’s lineup, Dacia officials have confirmed that the Sandero will remain a conventional hatchback.

For the first time, there will be an all-electric Sandero to sit alongside a hybrid model. The electric Sandero should have some familiar tech too, because it’s likely to be based on the same underpinnings as the Renault 5 (R5), 4 and the upcoming Twingo.

No details have been revealed yet, but the Sandero is a similar size to the R5, and that car gets two battery options – either a 40kWh unit or 52kWh unit – and a power output of up to 148bhp. It's also very good, being our reigning What Car? Car of the Year.

Technical details on both the electric Sandero and its hybrid sibling are still thin on the ground, but the latter will likely use similar tech to the hybrid Renault Clio, which combines a 1.6-litre petrol engine with an electric motor to produce 143bhp.

Dacia officials have stated it's likely that the only combustion options available with the new Sandero will make use of hybrid tech – so we expect it'll do away with the pure combustion options currently offered.

According to Dacia, the Sandero will undergo a slight makeover so that it fits in more with the brand’s rugged, off-road look, but it won’t go as far as to raise its suspension and turn it into an SUV.

The current Sandero is surprisingly well-finished inside despite its bargain pricing, so we would hope the next-generation model maintains that standard. However, we weren’t particularly impressed with the interior in the new Bigster, which is let down by scratchy plastics and a sluggish infotainment system.

Alongside the new Sandero, Dacia is also primed to unveil a replacement for the super-affordable Spring EV in 2026, and it’ll be closely related to the upcoming Renault Twingo. On top of that, an electric variant of the next-generation Duster is also in the works, but no dates have been confirmed for that model yet.

The next-generation Dacia Sandero is due to arrive in 2027. Prices aren’t yet revealed, but we expect Dacia will try to maintain the affordability it’s known for. The current Sandero starts at just under £15,000 – but with the new hybrid option, we’d expect prices to start slightly higher, at around £17,000. That’s still highly competitive, undercutting the Citroën C3 and Skoda Fabia.

For the electric model, we can expect prices of around £20,000 – less than the Renault 5, and around the same as the Citroën ë-C3.
