Are you driving drunk the morning after?

Drivers are ignoring the dangers of drink-driving the morning after, according to a shocking new poll from What Car?

More than half of those polled on whatcar.com admitted to driving the morning after, despite being over the limit 37% said they had done it once or twice, 10% said they did from time to time, and 6% admitted to regularly taking to the wheel drunk in the morning.

What Car? editor Steve Fowler said: 'It's incredible to think that in this day and age people continue to drink-drive the morning after. They are putting their lives, and the lives of many others, at risk. The simple message is that if you think youre over the limit the morning after you probably are. Stay away from your car.'

Although the What Car? findings show a frightening readiness to flout the law and endanger life, figures released by the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) today show that the number of positive tests over the Christmas period fell from 4.99% in 2008 to 3% in 2009, even though more breath-tests were carried out.

Commenting on our poll, ACPO said: 'Regardless of the time of day, if you suspect that you may be over the limit dont drive until you are absolutely satisfied that you are safe to do so.

'Alcohol and drugs can impair your ability to judge speed and distances, reduce concentration and delay reaction speed. Worst of all, drinking and driving can kill, and thats a life sentence no-one would want to live with.'
