Audi A3 range expanded
* Two hybrids join the range * New S3 Sportback * S3 arrives in September, will cost 31,640...
Three new versions of the Audi A3 Sportback are on display at the Geneva motor show.
The first, the A3 Sportback E-tron, is a petrol-electric plug-in hybrid that offers a claimed average economy of 188mpg and CO2 emissions of 35g/km.
The E-tron pairs a 148bhp 1.4-litre petrol engine with an electric motor to produce a combined output of 201bhp. This gets the car from 0-62mph in 7.6 seconds and on to a top speed of 138mph. It has an electric-only range of 31 miles.
It's expected to go on sale next year, with prices revealed closer to its on-sale date.
Also on show is the A3 Sportback G-tron. Powered by a 1.4-litre petrol engine and Audi's E-gas a CO2-neutral gas the G-tron produces 109bhp, averages 80.7mpg and emits 95g/km of CO2. It accelerates from 0-62mph in 11.0 seconds.
Along with the two hybrids, Audi is also showing its performance-oriented version, the S3 Sportback. The 296bhp 2.0-litre petrol engine powers the S3 from 0-62mph in 5.0 seconds and returns average economy of 40.9mpg.
The S3 Sportback will be available with optional all-LED headlights and Audi's magnetic ride system.
Order books open in April, with the first UK deliveries in September. Prices for the new S3 Sportback start at 31,640 and remain unchanged from those of the previous-generation car.
