7. Ford Fiesta 1.0 Ecoboost 100 Zetec Powershift 5dr
List price: £16,795
There's an awful lot to like about the Ford Fiesta, and that includes its Powershift automatic gearbox, which is particularly good when combined with the punchy 1.0-litre Ecoboost petrol engine. 6. Renault Clio 1.5 dCi Dynamique Nav Auto
List price: £18,295

5. Seat Leon 1.4 EcoTSI 150 FR Technology 5dr DSG
Target Price: £22,700
Ok, so technically this Leon's list price does push it above the £20,000 mark, but thankfully our Target Price, which shows you the most you should pay for a new car, brings it back within budget. Good thing, too, because this version of the Leon is our favourite, and makes the car an excellent all-rounder.
