BMW recalls 109,000 5 and 6 Series

BMW UK is recalling all previous generation BMW 5 and 6 Series models built between March 2003 and September 2010.

advertisment

The 109,000 cars may have an incorrectly fitted battery cable cover, which in some cases is suffering from water ingress, resulting in owners not able to start their cars. BMW say that in some rare cases the electrical system could malfunction leading to scorching of the boot floor and possible fire.

BMW says the issue affects 1.3 million cars worldwide and claims it was made aware of the issue by ongoing testing of their cars and customer feedback.

Owners of affected cars will be notified in the coming weeks and asked to arrange a visit to their local dealer. BMW claim the repairs will take approximately 30 minutes and will be carried out free of charge.

No accidents or injury has been reported but concerned 5 and 6 Series owners should contact the BMW customer service number on 0800 325600.
