Car of the Year Awards 2023: Best family SUV for value
Cars in this class must obviously provide sufficient space for families. However, the best also offer a comfortable ride and tidy handling, and blend gutsy performance with wallet-friendly costs...
Skoda Karoq 1.0 TSI 110 SE Drive
With car prices rising seemingly day by day, finding affordable examples that still represent value for money can be a challenge. We’re not suggesting that the Kia Sportage doesn’t offer that, but if you’re on an even tighter budget, the Skoda Karoq is the family SUV we’d happily recommend.
It’s spacious and practical, with a large boot, and the entry-level version is usefully cheaper to buy outright than the Sportage and Nissan Qashqai (although the latter costs less each month on PCP finance). It comes with fixed rear seats rather than the sliding and removable VarioFlex ones on some trims, but you can add them for £745 if you want to.
With the entry-level 1.0-litre petrol engine, the Karoq isn’t as quick as the 1.6-litre Sportage, but it’s gutsy enough. And although the Sportage is a bit better to drive, you won’t be disappointed with the Karoq either. In fact, it doesn’t feel like a budget option in any respect.
