Car of the Year Awards 2026: Best small electric SUV for interior quality
Small electric SUVs should provide everyday usability and the capability to travel far on a single charge. But the best need to up the game with a great interior and user friendly tech, too...
Volvo EX30 Single Motor Extended Range Ultra

The Swedish know a thing or två about interior design, and the Volvo EX30 is a fantastic example. A masterclass of clean lines and tidiness, it makes even the Kia EV3’s modern, plush interior look a little fussy and dowdy.
And don’t think we’re talking Ikea here; you won’t find any chipboard beneath those sleek surfaces, oh no. In range-topping Ultra trim, you get a choice of four no-cost interior styles; we think the combination of wool-blend seat upholstery (in grey or green) and flax dashboard trim looks the most special. The materials are also sustainably sourced; what could be more appropriate in an electric car?

Don’t panic if you can’t stretch to the priciest version, though; while lesser trims aren’t quite as lavish, they still look and feel superb. The attention to detail is first rate, and everything feels rock solid – enough to embarrass many bigger, pricier models, let alone other small electric SUVs.
Beaten on the value and practicality fronts by the EV3, the EX30 can’t take the overall win in this class, but it’s a fantastic choice if you like to feel indulged while you’re being ecologically aware.
