25 July 2022 – Three's company

When I was deciding which options to add to my Citroën Berlingo, one of the biggest decisions I faced was how to divide up the interior. You see, being a van, there's a multitude of ways of having it set up. I could have had extra seats in the back, for example, or given over some space to racking to help organise my kit.

I chose to have the rear completely empty in order to maximise my storage space, but that left the issue of how to carry passengers. This was solved by going for the Berlingo’s front bench seat, which means I can fit three people, including myself, in the front of the van.

Getting three people onto the Berlingo’s front bench means you all become good friends quite quickly in the confined space, but it’s been useful for short hops around my local area so far.

Most of the time, though, the middle seat is folded down, and is instead used as an impromptu desk for when the Berlingo needs to become a mobile office. Another benefit of this layout is that, with the outermost seat folded down, I can also access the rear of the van, so I could run extra-long items through the gap from the rear if needed.
