Detroit motor show 2017 – our star cars
This week's Detroit motor show has given us a glimpse at some of the new models heading to UK showrooms over the next year and beyond...
The GLA is Mercedes' smallest SUV, and a rival for the BMW X1 and Audi Q3. Exterior and interior style upgrades keep the GLA looking fresh, and the range continues to be topped by the sporty Mercedes-AMG GLA 45 model, which comes with 376bhp. New Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity options are available, too.
The Volkswagen Tiguan remains one of the very best small SUVs, but this longer Allspace model is designed to appeal to those who want to carry seven people and their luggage. It's due to go on sale towards the middle of this year, but much of the new car's success will hinge on its pricing, especially considering there are already several excellent seven-seat SUVs around, including the Skoda Kodiaq and Nissan X-Trail.
Remember the VW Microbus of the 1950s and 1960s? This is its 21st century sibling. The ID Buzz is tentatively scheduled to make production in 2022, and offers seating for eight inside its flexible interior. It's also fully autonomous and is driven by electric power, and has a driving range of 372 miles - far further than is offered by other conventional electric models.
