The GLA is Mercedes' smallest SUV, and a rival for the BMW X1 and Audi Q3. New Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity options are available, too.

The Volkswagen Tiguan remains one of the very best small SUVs, but this longer Allspace model is designed to appeal to those who want to carry seven people and their luggage. Remember the VW Microbus of the 1950s and 1960s? This is its 21st century sibling. The ID Buzz is tentatively scheduled to make production in 2022, and offers seating for eight inside its flexible interior. It's also fully autonomous and is driven by electric power, and has a driving range of 372 miles - far further than is offered by other conventional electric models.
