Fiat 500 Cabriolet

If the Fiat 500 Cabriolet proves as popular as its hatchback sibling, then it might spawn a revival in sales of tinned sardines.

The peeled-back tin lid look has never been so cool, and it ensures that owners will stand out from the crowd.

The cloth roof harks back to the original 1957 Topolino's, also means that changes to the structure of the standard 500 are kept to a minimum.

Understandably, Fiat doesn't allude to sardine tins as a design prompt for the Cabriolet, instead describing the roof structure more romantically as 'an unrestricted window to the sky'.

Engine choices are the same as in the hatchback: a 74bhp 1.3-litre diesel, along with 68bhp 1.2-litre and 98bhp 1.4 petrols. The engines all have Fiat's fuel-saving Start&Stop system as standard.

The 500 Cabriolet goes on sale in May and prices are expected to start at around 10,000 -1500 more than the cheapest hatchback version.

Fiat has also announced some new kit to personalise your Fiat 500 that the company describes as 'enticing and appealing to the gentle sex'!

It ranges from butterfly and European capital city graphic stickers through to a polished blackboard-style panel on the dashboard.

Other slightly barmy kit includes a make-up holder and a keyfob featuring Swarovski crystals.
