A 1.5-litre petrol engine is paired up with a compact electric motor, delivering 79g/km CO2 and 67.2mpg.

Combined power is 100bhp, and Toyota has managed to shave 42kg off their usual 1.8-litre hybrid powertrain used in the Prius and Auris Hybrid by downsizing.

It goes on sale throughout Europe in May 2012.
