JLR could build new UK engine factory

Bosses at Jaguar Land Rover have met Government officials to discuss a proposal to build a new engine factory in Britain.
According to the Daily Telegraph, JLR bosses met officials from the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills last week about potential Government grants. The sites being considered, says the newspaper, are in the West Midlands, south Wales along with a site in India, where parent company Tata is based.
JLR currently sources its engines from Ford, with diesel engines made at Ford's factory in Dagenham and the petrols from its factory at Bridgend, Wales.
Jaguar and Land Rover are planning to expand their model ranges, so a new engine factory would help the companies' expansion plans.
Sales and operations director Phil Popham promised '40 significant product introductions in the next five years' from Jaguar Land Rover.
These could include a sub-25,000 Land Rover and a sub-30,000 Jaguar to compete with the likes of a BMW 3 Series and Audi A4. A Jaguar XF Estate is also being considered.
Last week, Jaguar announced plans to build its C-X75 supercar, with the help of the Williams F1 grand prix team.
