Cleaner engines
Six engines will be available, including a new 2.0-litre petrol unit that produces lower emissions and higher mpg than the one it replaces.

Updated versions of the current 1.8 and 2.5-litre engines complete the petrol line-up. Diesel options come in the form of Mazda's MZR-CD 2.2-litre unit in three power derivatives, from 127bhp to 178bhp. The diesel units also have reduced emissions and improved economy over the previous versions.

Mazda has also tweaked the 6's chassis settings, while also introducing some new safety systems, such as pivoting headlamps and hill-launch assist.

As well as the new Mazda family face, the 6 will get new headlamps and rear lights for what Mazda describes as a 'sporty appearance and a clearer, premium identity'.

The face-lifted Mazda 6 will be unveiled in the metal at the Geneva motor show on March 2.
