When the original Focus was launched in 1998 it rapidly established itself as the family car of choice for keen drivers. It was practical and well equipped, too, and in combination with Ford’s reputation for building cars that are good value for money and generally reliable, it soon became a firm fixture in the UK best-sellers list. The same has held true all the way through the Focus’s life, even if one or two rivals have subsequently rivalled it for driving dynamics.

3 Ford Fiesta 2008-2017
The Fiesta has been at the top or near the top of the best-selling cars in the UK list for many a long year, so it’s no surprise to find the used review in the top 10. The Fiesta is a small and entertaining family car that offers a lot of everything for everyone. It’s practical, and has a large range of engines and trims. On top of that, just because you're buying a sensible small car doesn't mean it can't be fun to drive. With sharp steering, excellent grip and a lively chassis, it's an absolute hoot in the corners. It should prove fairly reliable and cheap to run too.

2 Land Rover Freelander 2006-2014
Some might find it astonishing that a car that went off sale in 2014 still finishes second in our list of most-viewed used reviews for 2018. However, the Freelander was always a popular car, never more so than in this second-generation model. It represented a big step up for the British company’s smallest product. With smarter looks inside and out, it could take on premium-badged opposition such as the Audi Q5 and the BMW X3 for the first time. Its reliability was never as strong as some of its rivals, admittedly, but its chunky looks and strong dynamics have won it a huge legion of fans.
