If owning a car is like taking a flight, then think of the new Peugeot 208 and 2008 GT Premium trim as flying first class, complete with sumptuous seats and a host of creature comforts.

Indeed, Peugeot has introduced a new top-of-the-range trim level for its 208 and 2008 models and their all-electric counterparts, the e-208 and e-2008, dubbed GT Premium. The new trim offers a range of new tech upgrades, as well as improvements to electric range on the e-208.

The new trim features some added creature comforts including faux suede Alcantara furnishings inside, heated front seats, wireless phone charging and lumbar adjustment and massage functions on the driver’s seat. Both the 208 and 2008 also get a number of driving aids, including adaptive cruise control with stop and go functionality, a front parking camera and blind spot monitoring. On the outside, the 2008 comes equipped with 18in diamond-cut alloy wheels.

Thanks to an additional heat pump, the larger 48.1kWh (usable) battery on the e-208 has boosted efficiency and can now officially manage 268 miles on a single charge – an increase of 14 miles on the previous version, according to Peugeot. That’s more than the most efficient version of the BYD Dolphin, but an MG4 EV in Long Range guise can travel much further. That heat pump is also standard on the e-2008 model in GT Premium guise.

Both the e-208 and e-2008 can now facilitate vehicle-to-load charging, which means drivers are able to power external devices using the car’s battery. This functionality is available exclusively with the 48.1kWh unit on the e-208 and the 50.8kWh (usable) unit on the e-2008.

Hybrid models have also received a boost in power. Previously, the two hybrid versions of the 208 offered 99bhp and 134bhp, but those have been upped to 108bhp and 143bhp respectively.

Prices for the 208 in GT Premium trim start at £28,295, and rise to £30,100 for the hybrid model. If you choose to opt for electric power, you’ll be paying from £34,000 for an e-208 with the larger battery. For reference, you’ll pay £32,495 for an MG4 EV in higher-spec Trophy Long Range trim.

The 2008 in GT Premium guise starts at £35,095, with hybrid models starting from £35,870. Electric e-2008 models start at £39,310. A range-topping Hyundai Kona Electric is similarly priced, at £39,400.
