Peugeot 2008 prices announced

The Peugeot 2008 will stick close to the prices of the Nissan Juke and even the regular 208 supermini when the baby SUV finally reaches dealers in July.

Peugeot UK has confirmed that the 2008 - in effect a raised version of the 208 - will cost from 12,995 for the entry-level trim, Access+. The cheapest 208 Access+ costs 12,845, and the most basic Nissan Juke, the 1.6 Visia, costs 12,995.

However, the 2008 does look set to cost more than another of its main rivals, the Renault Captur. That car, closely related to the Clio, costs from 12,495.

The Peugeot 2008 Access+ brings air-conditioning, six airbags, electric front windows, cruise control and central locking as standard; it's available with either an 82bhp 1.2-litre petrol engine or a 70bhp 1.4-litre diesel.

The next trim level up, Activa, adds 16-inch alloy wheels, a leather steering wheel, a multi-function touch screen, Bluetooth and a DAB radio; it starts at 13,845 for the 82bhp 1.2 petrol edition. This trim is also available with Peugeot's 1.6-litre diesel engine, with either 92bhp or 115bhp, and stop-start.

Allure brings tinted rear windows, automatic headlights and wipers, electric windows all round, dual-zone air-conditioning and Peugeot's new Grip control safety system, and starts at 14,995. It's only available with the 1.2 petrol or 1.6 diesel.

The range-topping trim, Feline, sits on 17-inch alloys and also includes a panoramic glass roof, sat-nav, an extra USB input and ambient lighting; it's available only with the 1.6-litre petrol and diesel engines, costing from 17,450 and 18,445 respectively.

Baby SUVs are set to be a huge growth area in the next 18 months. The 2008, Captur and Juke are already facing up to the Chevrolet Trax and Vauxhall Mokka, and these contenders will all be targeted by new models from Fiat, Jeep and Ford.
