Porsche 911 Turbo details revealed

The forthcoming Porsche 911 Turbo has been revealed, with prices starting at 118,349.

There will be two versions of the 2013 Turbo a standard version that develops 513bhp, while the Turbo S kicks out a monstrous 552bhp.

Both versions of the 3.8-litre straight six Turbo are quicker than their predecessors. The new Turbo does the 0-62mph dash in 3.2 seconds, while the Turbo S takes just 3.1. The top speed in both cases is 197mph.

There's no manual gearbox being offered in the 2013 Turbo; instead it comes with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic PDK gearbox. Porsche has also tweaked the engine stop-start system so that the engine shuts off when the car is coasting to a halt. This, and other changes to the engine, results in a 16% improvement in average fuel economy, which is now 29.1mpg.

The 2013 911 Turbo also has a new rear-axle steering system. At up to 31mph the rear wheels turn in the opposite direction to the front ones to improve the turning circle. At speeds above 50mph they turn in the same direction as the front wheels to improve high-speed cornering stability. The handling is further enhanced by an adjustable rear spoiler, which improves downforce.

Visually, the Turbo stands out thanks to its widened body 28mm wider than the standard Carrera 4 and the 20-inch two-tone alloy wheels.

The interior gets a black and red colour scheme, sports seats with 18-way adjustment, a Bose sound system, radar-controlled cruise control and road sign recognition.

The Turbo also gets automatic climate control, Bi-xenon headlights, satellite-navigation, DAB digital radio and Bluetooth as standard, while the Turbo S adds Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC), Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB) and LED headlights.

Every 911 Turbo also comes with a tracking system and a complimentary course at the Porsche Experience Centre at Silverstone.

Prices for the Turbo start at 118,349 and the Turbo S from 140,852. First right-hand drive deliveries will arrive in September 2013.
