Skoda Citigo GT unlikely

Skoda has ruled out the possibility of a faster version of its Citigo, in the style of the Volkswagen Up GT, for the immediate future.

Instead, Skoda will focus on special-edition Skoda Fabia models. We are looking to design vehicles like the Fabia Monte Carlo. The GT editions work for VW, but not so much with us, said Stackmann, Skoda board member for sales and marketing.

The vRS brand works well with the Octavia, but it is more difficult with the Fabia. We sold 2500 Fabia vRS models last year and 12,500 Monte Carlos.

However, he insisted that a Monte Carlo model would not get just a few add-ons, saying: It must have integrity, not just be plasticky.

A Monte Carlo or equivalent version would be some way off, with any model likely to arrive in around two years. In the meantime, the Citigo will offer packages that will add styling details such as stickers and 15-inch alloy wheels.
