Sportiest Porsche 911 Carrera revealed

Porsche will unveil the sportiest model in its 911 Carrera range at the Paris motor show at the end of this month.

With an uprated, 402bhp version of the 3.8-litre six-cylinder engine fitted to other models, the Carrera GTS is the only Carrera with more than 400bhp.

Compared with the Carrera S, the GTS's extra 22bhp is enough to cut 0.1 seconds off the 0-60mph time and add 2mph to the top speed. That results in figures of 4.6 seconds and 190mph respectively, but despite the extra power, the car actually returns slightly better economy than the Carrera S 27.7mpg in the coupe.

Where the GTS differs from every other Carrera model is that it combines the wider body of the four-wheel-drive Carrera 4 models with rear-wheel drive. This, says Porsche, makes for an 'exceptionally sporting' car.

Also distinguishing the GTS from other models in the Carrera range are the black 19-inch RS Spyder alloy wheels, the SportDesign front apron, special side skirts and black exhaust pipes. These are complemented by the use of Alcantara trim inside to give a sporty feel.

Standard equipment also includes a six-speed manual gearbox and a vehicle tracking system, with a twin-clutch, semi-automatic, seven-speed PDK 'box among the options.

The new model goes on sale in December, with prices starting at 76,758 for the Coupe and 83,493 for the Cabriolet.
