Aris Comninos crashed the Alfa Romeo while driving near Lake Garda in northern Italy. Another stuntman had minor injuries.

A spokesman for the town of Limone sul Garda, where filming has been taking place for the past two weeks, said the car crashed into a wall during a chase sequence involving a truck and Bond's Aston Martin.

A helicopter on standby during filming flew the seriously injured stunt driver to Verona, where he underwent surgery.

A spokeswoman for the movie said filming has been suspended while the accident was being investigated.

It is the second car accident linked to the film - last week, an Aston Martin being driven to the film set skidded off a road into a lake and sank 45 metres, although the driver escaped serious injury.
