The Skoda Superb Estate is a large family wagon competing against accomplished rivals including the Ford Mondeo and Volkswagen Passat estates. You could also argue that it competes with more premium offerings from the compact executive estate class, like the Audi A4 Avant and BMW 3 Series Touring, but the Superb isn’t just a lot cheaper than those two, it’s also a lot bigger.
Engine options include a wide range of petrol and diesel engines, a choice of manual or automatic gearboxes, and two or four-wheel drive on selected models.
Because it’s so competitively priced (even when judged against other great-value propositions such as the Ford Mondeo Estate), more spacious than its rivals, well equipped, classy and available with a powertrain option to suit everyone, the Superb is easily our favourite big family estate.
For all buyers, but particularly business users, the 148bhp 2.0-litre diesel in SE Business trim makes the most sense since it delivers strong performance with low emissions. A good alternative for private buyers is the 1.4 SE petrol.
