You can pick up a Berlingo Multispace for around the same price as a reasonably specced small car, but we’d recommend spending a little more on a Puretech 110 model. This has lower CO2 emissions, better fuel economy and is more muscular to boot.
Although Feel trim is tempting if you just need a cheap family hauler, we’d upgrade to Flair. The alloy wheels, leather steering wheel and roof bars add some kerbside appeal, while the heated door mirrors and rear parking sensors will make your life easier. Importantly, you also get individual rear seats and a 7.0in touchscreen infotainment system. Even so, you’ll need to pay extra for sat-nav.
Unfortunately, safety isn’t the Berlingo Multispace’s strong point. It only managed a three-star Euro NCAP crash test score – that’s worse than the four-star Volkswagen Caddy Life and five-star Ford Tourneo Connect.
