2012 Volvo V40 prices announced

Prices for the Volvo V40 have been announced, following its unveiling at the Geneva motor show last month.

The all-new V40 is on sale now, with prices starting from 19,745. That puts it on a par with key rivals such as the 2012 Audi A3 and new Mercedes A-Class. First deliveries are expected in September.

The 2012 Volvo V40 will be available in three trim levels: ES, SE and SE LUX. The entry-level ES includes climate control, 16-inch alloy wheels, Bluetooth and stability control.

The new V40 comes with features an array of safety features, including a pedestrian airbag the first to be fitted to a production car.

The most efficient version - the V40 D2 - has a four-cylinder 1.6-litre diesel engine with stop/start function, returning 78.5mpg and CO2 emissions of 94g/km. The D2 is eligible for free vehicle tax for the first two years of use because it qualifies for the lowest vehicle tax band.

The new V40 enters the premium hatchback segment against competitors such as the new Audi A3, BMW 1 Series and Volkswagen Golf.
