2017 Hyundai i30 - first pictures ahead of September debut
First pictures of the new Hyundai i30 have been revealed before the model goes on sale in the UK next year...
The new Hyundai i30 will be revealed next month before going on sale in the UK early next year.
The i30, a rival for other popular family hatchbacks including the Ford Focus, Vauxhall Astra and Volkswagen Golf, currently gets three stars on What Car?'s road test. We like its spacious interior and good levels of standard equipment, but it's not as good to drive as most of the other cars in this market - something Hyundai will be looking to rectify with the new model.
Although these first pictures don't give too much away about the new i30, we can see it will look broadly similar to Hyundai's other small cars, including the i10 , which is our current City Car of the Year, and the i20.
Three models, including an estate
We already know that there will eventually be three versions of this new i30 on sale - a five-door hatchback, an estate and a four-door coupé aimed especially at the European market.
We expect the current i30 engine range to be carried over for this new model with only minor changes, and that means the 1.6-litre diesel we currently recommend is likely to remain the best option for buyers.
Hyundai will be adding to its i30 range, however, with a new sporty version called the i30 N. That car is likely to go on sale after the regular i30 has launched, and is expected to be powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine. A hybrid version of the new i30, featuring technology taken from Hyundai's Ioniq hybrid, can't be ruled out either. Such a model would likely prove popular with European buyers.
Designed and tested in Europe
Hyundai is placing a big focus on the growing European market for family hatchbacks with the new i30. The Korean manufacturer says the car has been designed, developed and tested in Europe, and will offer a range of "efficient and dynamic" engine options, the latest in safety and connectivity technology, and value for money. Any information on pricing is likely a long way off, but for reference, the current i30 costs from £12,995, making it one of the cheaper models in this class.
