If you’re in the market for a fast, petrol-powered premium SUV, you’re rather spoilt for choice at the moment. Although we know the Audi SQ5 has the measure of the Mercedes-AMG GLC 43, the X3 M40i could upset the applecart.
The SQ5 may have a marginally nicer interior and be a bit more practical, but the X3 M40i is quicker, more fun in the bends and more characterful to boot. We suspect that, for many, it’ll come down to ride comfort. If you always want to be reminded of how sporting your SUV is, the X3 M40i will certainly appeal. If, however, you like your family hauler to have a dual personality, we suspect the SQ5 will be more to your liking.
